Top 10 Reasons to Hire a Dog Walker in Miami

You may have seen our dog walkers having fun with our pet clients around Brickell, Downtown Miami, or Coconut Grove. Chances are, you’ve probably thought about hiring a dog walker yourself at some point. Maybe you’ve had an unusually long day at the office that kept you away from home, or you’ve had to turn down happy hour invitations so you can rush home to relieve your pooch. Maybe this doesn’t happen often… and then, maybe it happens too much and you’re left wondering whether you should have hired a dog walker months ago.

We think you probably should! Aside from relieving your mental stress of leaving your pup alone for eight hours at a time, your dog really benefits from daily breaks, exercise, and tender loving care. Dogs crave companionship, playtime, and a good exercise session (tailored to each dog’s individual needs; for example, English Bulldog puppies need to tread carefully). Regular stimulation, exercise, and companionship help shape your dog into the best he or she can be, and leave them relaxed and eager to snuggle and spend quality time with you when you return home.

There are plenty of reasons to hire a dog walker, but you especially might want to hire a professional dog walker if:

  1. You work full time, or leave your dog home alone for long periods of time. Just like humans, dogs need to relieve themselves throughout the day, and should not hold it for more than 6 hours.
  2. You have a new puppy in your home! Puppies that are potty training MUST be let out more often than older dogs in order to help potty train them and avoid accidents. Puppy potty times increase with age: a 1 month old puppy can typically hold it an hour, a 2-month-old 2 hours, and so on.
  3. You prefer to not leave your dog at a doggy daycare. We understand that some of our pet parents don’t want to expose their dogs to disease or fights, and while many of the dog daycare facilities are reputable and excellent locations, this is a personal choice.
  4. Your dog is gaining weight due to lack of exercise while eating the recommended daily amount of food.
  5. Your dog is acting out, chewing your tables, favorite shoes, or showing compulsive, repetitive behaviors.
  6. You don’t leave out pee pads for your pup and don’t leave access to a fenced-in yard for bathroom relief. Keep in mind older animals sometimes need relief more often due to their prescription medications and general health.
  7. You are unable to walk your dog yourself due to physical circumstances, be it illness, surgery, or anything else. Some older clients adopted bully breeds and need us to tire out these athletic dogs for them!
  8. You keep finding accidents throughout your house despite training and limiting of water and food.
  9. You want an experienced professional who is licensed, bonded, and insured, and who is trained in handling dogs on the street, as well as in pet CPR and first aid.
  10. You love your dog and want her to be entertained, enriched, and cared for as your own child would be.

If any of the above reasons resonate with you, our dog walkers are happy to help! We will be your pups’ companions and teachers while you’re away at work (or even play and vacation), so that they blossom into the best pups they can be. Our pet sitters and dog walkers have taken dogs out for fun breaks, walks, and runs in many neighborhoods, including: Brickell, Downtown Miami, Coconut Grove, Coral Gables, South Miami, Pinecrest, and Palmetto Bay. Our Pet Sitting Policy on Shared Responsibility and Why We Enforce It

Beccie and Delilah the Pug- just the girls!

Equipaws Pet Services’ Pet Sitting Policy and Procedures:

We’re professional pet sitters and have made the job we love into a career. We really pride ourselves on the services we provide while caring for your pets and your home while you’re away. Our pet sitters do things to make your home look lived-in, like bringing in the mail and alternating lights, while also keeping up with the little things that make your home look as good as the way you left it. We’re quite happy sweeping up bits of kitty litter or excess fur that might accumulate while you’re away, or wiping up muddy paw prints after playtime.

We keep your pets safe.

That is why our Policies and Procedures make clear that Equipaws Pet Services does not share responsibility over the pets or house with any other parties.  This includes housekeepers, handymen, or even friends.  We feel strongly about this policy because it minimizes confusion; we cannot vouch or be responsible for treatment of the pet/s or the home given by a third party when we are either present or in between pet sits. It is possible that pets can be overfed due to a lack of communication or understanding. More dire accidents can happen; for example, someone working for you may accidentally leave a door unlocked, opening your home to burglaries, or worse- allowing for your pup to run away. We want to avoid that at all costs.

Our employees are held accountable for the proper care of your pets and home. As professional pet sitters, we take this responsibility very seriously and we let our service speak for us. Our pet sitters have all had stringent background checks, and the company is licensed, bonded and insured. Each pet sitter goes through training with the owner of the company and knows what is expected of him or her, and that no one is to be in the house other than them during a visit with your pets.

Our “Shared Responsibility” Policy in a nutshell:

We will not take responsibility for the actions of anyone who is not an Equipaws Pet Services employee. That is why we ask that our clients not schedule any home care or maintenance while we are coming in and out of their homes for everyone’s peace of mind. That way we can leave your homes clean and ready for your return, and keep your pets fit, healthy, and happy, without any misunderstandings, mistakes, or accidents from third parties.

The following paragraphs appear in our Policies and Procedures when you sign up for your pet sitting or dog walks and runs. Please review it:

Additional Pet Care Assistance and Other Scheduled Services: If in a rare case, there is additional pet care assistance, Equipaws Pet Services, LLC does not accept liability for other persons who will be in your home prior to, during, or immediately after our services have been rendered. Our policy is to be the sole care giver while you are away. Please inform us at the time of the consultation of anyone who may have access to your home while you are away, and note it on the form provided. This includes cleaning services, maintenance personnel, friends, family and neighbors. Client is to notify anyone with access to the home that Equipaws Pet Services, LLC’s services have been engaged.

Household Cleaning Personnel are to remain away from the premises while the dog sitting is taking place. They may arrive prior to the pet sitter’s scheduled visit, or after the pet sitter’s scheduled visit concludes. This is to prevent mishaps or misunderstandings based on mistake(s) made by cleaning personnel.

Please let us know if you have any questions or concerns!

Bring Your Dog to a SoMi Pack Walk!

pack walk in South Miami pet sitterTails will wag on a walk with Equipaws Pet Services and Medifast!

Is your dog overweight? Could he or she use new dog friends and fun? Then join us on our first pack walk of the year on April 26, bright and early at 8:00 a.m. Let’s soak up a little vitamin D and then get our exercise in safely under the shady trees in South Miami!

As professional dog walkers, we believe exercise is incredibly important for your dogs’ health and ours, and that it can and should be fun. So why not be sociable while getting in shape? That’s why we joined with Medifast in Suniland to promote health and wellness for both dogs and dog parents.

Presenting Monthly Dog Pack Walks in Miami

Our South Miami pack walk will start out at South Miami Animal Clinic, conveniently located on US1 by Sunset Place. We’ll have a weigh-in for your pups at Dr. Maria Oliveira’s office, as well as a tent with our sign-in sheets, waivers, refreshments, and treats for both pets and pet parents. Well-behaved, socialized dogs are welcome!

*Dogs must be up to date with all of their vaccines and shots and present rabies tags.*

The purpose of the weigh-in and the walk is to get a baseline reading of your pup’s fitness level and to start you and your furkids on an exercise program. We will be hosting these pack walks monthly, and of course, will always be available to continue the walks for you during the week if you see your dog loves the exercise (and most of them do).

Enter Our Raffle for Great Prizes: Not only will you benefit from the exercise, you could also win several prizes from our raffle. The lucky winners will come away with either:

  • a 1 month membership to Equinox
  • a 1 week weight loss trial of Medifast
  • a gift card for pet sitting services with Equipaws Pet Services

South Miami Pack Walk Details: We will have refreshments available for you and your dogs, as well as goody bags with dog treats donated by local pet store Pet’s Best (which offers excellent organic dog and cat food). Make sure to bring your dog on a short lead; no retractable leashes, please!
