The South Miami Rotary Art Festival Recap

Dog-Friendly South Miami Rotary Art Festival

We were more than happy to volunteer at the dog-friendly South Miami Rotary Art Festival this past weekend! Over 150 artists showed their wonderful work, and thousands of Miamians brought their dogs along for a stroll along Sunset Drive. Equipaws Pet Services offered fresh water and special freeze-dried liver and cod treats at their Doggy Hydration station for the second year in a row. Owner Flavia and her pet sitters Tom, Becca, Sara, Tony, and Frankie were on hand to snuggle pups and bring them out of the sun under the shade of the Equipaws tent, and to trade fun dog stories and tips with pet parents.

We were happy to see many of our pet sitting and dog walking clients make it out to this fantastic event, too! The pups were decked out in their very fashionable leashes and beautiful dog carriages. There were a few newly-adopted rescue dogs, which always warms our hearts. For the most part, pet parents were responsible with their pups this year. Many had their own bottled water and dog poop bags on their persons; if they didn’t, they were on the lookout for watering opportunities for their pups and made beelines for the doggy hydration station. We noticed that no one put a sweater on their pups this year; this is great, considering that last year many people dressed their dogs to the nines in eighty degree weather. Finally, many people were conscious of their dogs’ paws, keeping them to the shade instead of the hot asphalt.

The South Miami Rotary Art Festival has been running for 32 years and is truly a labor of love. As we mentioned in our previous blog post on the art festival, the proceeds from the festival are donated for scholarships and other opportunities for local and international students and service projects.

We hope you enjoy the gallery of cute dogs from the festival, and hope we see you next year!

Dog Friendly South Miami Rotary Art Festival

Save the date for the 32nd annual dog friendly South Miami Rotary Art Festival from February 21-22, 2015! As a member of the South Miami Rotary Club, owner Flavia has enlisted her Equipaws pet sitters to volunteer for the second year in a row at the Art Festival’s “Doggie Hydration Station.” As always, South Miami is very welcoming to well-behaved dogs. Please bring your pups out on leashes to experience one of the best art festivals in South Florida. We will have grain-free treats and fresh, cool water available for them on both Saturday and Sunday!

Dog Friendly Art Festival in Miami

Our pet sitters volunteered at the 31st art festival last year and can confidently say it is a great dog-friendly event. The dogs we met last year were well-behaved, social, and had a fun time hanging out not only with their families, but also meeting other sociable doggies. The street offers covered sidewalks to keep pets’ sensitive paws safe, and there are complimentary doggy-doo bags in addition to cool water and treats that we provide. Wondering if a crowded art festival is the right place for your pup? Keep these in mind:

  • If your dog is nervous around crowds of people or other dogs, you should definitely keep them home.
  • Senior dogs and puppies can tire more easily; plan around your pet’s endurance levels.
  • Is your female pup in heat? Please keep her comfortable at home.
  • Brachycephalic dogs need to be carefully monitored for heat exhaustion (pugs, shih tzus, etc.)
  • Is your dog unruly on a leash? Go over training with him before bringing him out to an exciting event like this. Set him or her up for success instead of failure! (And please, for the love of your dog, yourself, and those around you, don’t use a retractable leash).

South Miami Rotary Art Festival Details

The South Miami Rotary Art Festival brings over 150 artists to downtown South Miami every year, closing Sunset Drive (SW 72nd Street) from US1 to Red Road (SW 57 Avenue), parallel to The Shops at Sunset Place. The Berti girls grew up going to the art festival and enjoying the area; it’s full of restaurants, great boutique shopping, and historic buildings). This small strip lends itself to a cozy experience for the family-friendly festival. Chances are you have driven by it but not actually walked in; there is always something for everyone, from princess tutus to face painting, fine art to a fine dining food court, beer garden, and live jazz.

We admire that the festival is produced completely by our fellow Rotarians of the Rotary Club of South Miami and its Rotary Foundation. They invite artists from all over North America. It is also a boon to the local economy, bringing 25,000 people for that weekend. Even better, proceeds from the festival go to fund college scholarships for South Miami students, and other service projects, both locally and internationally.

Admission is free for patrons with parking in garages and the street.

Where: 5750 SW 72 St., South Miami, FL 33143

When: February 21-22, 2015, Saturday 10:00 AM – 6:00 PM and Sunday 10:00 AM – 5:00 PM (Saturday night there will be live jazz onstage until 8:00 PM in the beer garden at 58th Avenue and Sunset).

The 31st Annual South Miami Rotary Art Festival is Dog Friendly!

We’re excited to announce our participation in a very cool, dog-friendly art festival in South Miami. Our friends from the Rotary Club of South Miami are proud presenters of the 31st annual art festival this Saturday and Sunday, February 22-23! We will be providing doggy valet services for the art festival all weekend, from 10 AM to 6 PM. Bring your well-behaved dogs over on their cutest leashes to our Doggy Valet Tent, and we’ll care for them Equipaws Pets-style! They’ll cool down under our tent, refresh themselves with ice-cold water, enjoy a treat or two (with your permission, of course!), and have cuddles, TLC, and plenty of socializing with other pups until you pick them up.

South Miami Rotary Art Festival: Dog Friendly and Fun!

We love South Miami for its small-town feel, yet cosmopolitan flair (there are great little restaurants and boutiques to suit every taste). The South Miami Rotary Art Festival is taking place in the downtown area of South Miami, on Sunset Drive (or SW 72 street), closing off the beautiful street from US 1 to Red Road (SW 57 Ave).

Our pet sitters Flavia and Frankie grew up around South Miami (they went to Epiphany School and Lourdes Academy), and are very excited to volunteer as the Doggy Valet! The area is filled with historic buildings, restaurants and unique shops. South Miami is  three miles south of Miami’s Coconut Grove, and borders the University of Miami and the beautiful neighborhoods of Coral Gables and Pinecrest (where you will find many of our dog sitters and runners, coincidentally!).

Admission is free, with parking on the street and in the Shops at Sunset Place garage. You can look forward to over 150 artists, a food court, live music, and a beer garden (no beer for the pups, though!).

For online or GPS directions search for 5750 SW 72 St., South Miami, FL 33143. You can reach them at or by telephone at 305-769-5977. Please be advised that volunteers periodically check messages and reply or return calls.

Will we see you there?
