Dog Treat Recall: Lamb Crunchy’s Dog Treats

There has been yet another pet food recall, this time in the form of Pet Center Inc.’s voluntary recall of Lamb Crunchy’s dog treats (3 oz bag, LAM-003, ,UPC# 727348200038) with date code 122015 product of USA for the potential contamination of Salmonella.

These treats were sold in California, Colorado, Washington, and Wisconsin in these stores: Gelson’s Market, General Pet, Nor-Sky Pet Supply and Independent Pet. While we’re based in Miami, it’s important to spread the word and be vigilant. Salmonella is transmittable to other dogs.

Please share this blog post with any friends living in those states. They should check their pets for these symptoms of Salmonella, and be sure to contact their veterinarians if their dogs ingested these treats and is exhibiting these signs:

  • lethargy
  • bloody diarrhea
  • fever
  • vomiting

 The U.S. Food and Drug Administration posted this press release yesterday:

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE – May 27, 2014 – Pet Center, Inc of Los Angeles, CA. is voluntarily recalling its 3 oz bag of Lamb Crunchy’s dog treats (LAM-003) (UPC# 727348200038) with date code 122015 product of USA, because it has the potential to be contaminated with Salmonella.

Salmonella can affect animals eating the products and there is a risk to humans from handling contaminated pet products, especially if they have not thoroughly washed their hands after having contact with the products or any surface exposed to these products.

Healthy people infected with Salmonella should monitor themselves for some or all of the following symptoms: nausea, vomiting, diarrhea or bloody diarrhea, abdominal cramping and fever. Rarely, Salmonella can result in more serious ailments, including arterial infections, endocarditis, arthritis, muscle pain, eye irritation, and urinary tract symptoms. Consumers exhibiting these signs after having contact with this product should contact their healthcare providers.

Pets with Salmonella infections may be lethargic and have diarrhea or bloody diarrhea, fever, and vomiting. Some pets will have only decreased appetite, fever and abdominal pain. Infected but otherwise healthy pets can be carriers and infect other animals or humans. If your pet has consumed the recalled product and has these symptoms, please contact your veterinarian.

This product was distributed to CA, WI, CO, and WA. to the following distributors; Gelson’s Market, General Pet, Nor-Sky Pet Supply, and Independent Pet.

No illnesses have been reported to date.

Salmonella was detected by the State of Colorado, Department of Agriculture in a random sample.
